Roach Coach R-Us

The day job has a nifty new addition, or as some feel, not so nifty. It's the handy dandy "Roach Coach" that shows up at our front door on morning break and lunch hour hoping to make mega bucks off our staff of almost 300 people. Here is Wikipedia's definition: "A food truck or mobile kitchen is a mobile venue that sells food. Some, including ice cream trucks, sell mostly frozen or prepackaged food; others are more like restaurants-on-wheels." In Canada they are supposedly called "chip wagons". In the UK they are known as "snack vans". This is the Urban Dictionary's definition: "the coffee truck that arrives on the job site with cold coffee, stale rolls, and spoiled milk. sometimes if your lucky, you can meet the entire insect family on this truck." What an awful name we in the US give our lunch wagons. I took at look at the roach coach and it looked very clean. I wouldn't be afraid to buy pre-packaged, canned, or bottled items such as chips or drinks. However, as my friend Linda said today, I'd be scared to buy the food they cooked. How do we know how old it is? Or how many hands have been around it? We only have a bare bones kitchen at work, just a few microwaves, refrigerators, a soda machine, and a snack machine (chips, crackers, candy, and gum). If we forget lunch and don't have time to go off campus to get lunch, we either have to order in (if we can get enough people to order the minimum amount for delivery), go without, beg, or do with chips. Now, we have another choice, if this lasts. Several months ago an ice cream truck came by for about a week at breaks before giving up. I really wonder if the roach coach will have much better luck. We'll see. They were popular on our college campus and when I was in the military. Do you ever eat things from these wagons? Do you think they deserve such a terrible name? You'll want to see what Amarinda Jones, Anika Hamilton, Anny Cook, Barbara Huffert, Brynn Paulin, Bronwyn Green, Dakota Rebel, Kelly Kirsch, Molly Daniels, and Sandra Cox are up to, so make sure to visit them also. :)

I have and I would again. I used to get these sausage sandwiches with cheese on a potato roll. They were awesome. Hit my stomach like a led brick.

I've never had dealings with one. Let me know if you like it or not. Have an excellent Monday.

Psst. There's no "s" in my last name. ;) But thanks for the mention.

I wouldn't have an issue with anything but the name of the food wagon. I've eaten things far more questionable and with guaranteed ick factors as opposed the the assumed ones. Even the wagons in the States have regulations they must pass. I think you're safe-ish.

The name alone scares me, I wouldn't be able to eat anything from the wagon without constantly thinking about the name.

To be honest, you have no control over how the food is between a roach coach and a restaurant. The only time you are going to be guaranteed with freshness and hygeine, is if you prepare it yourself. Unless you kitchen is in a state like mine of course! ;P

The only thing that would come close to a roach coach would be either the hot dog carts (YUM!), concession stands, or the coffee machines. Never had any issues with them; try it once and see.

Interesting you should mention this today. We were on our way home from the grocery this morning and passed the local r-coach rumbling down the road. I mentioned to my husband that that particular one just looked dirty and I'm not sure I'd be even approaching it for a closer look if it happened out by where I work. Where I work we have a water cooler and a very small fridge. That's it...nothing else. AND where I work is out in the middle of the desert. The closest thing is a dirty, nasty, yucky, grungy truck stop that a woman should not approach alone! LOL! So I take snacks from home and my drinks and I'm a happy camper! (unless I forget my snacks!) Give the lunch wagon a try. You may be surprised!
Have a great Monday!

Not so different from the street corner food carts in big cities, is it? Does your friend eat from them?

I used to eat off these coaches all the time when I was in the Air Force and again in college. I'll have to check out this one.
