Holy crap! Ohio had a hurricane!

No lie! Remember how I thought we'd get Hurricane Ike in South Florida? And we didn't? Well, to my total shock, my family up in Cincinnati, Ohio, got Ike as a category 1 hurricane! To my knowledge, Ohio's never had a hurricane. At least not Cincinnati. We in Florida and the Gulf States don't worry much about cat 1 storms, but my dad and my mother-in-law in Ohio were quite impressed and more than a little scared. Dad didn't notice a drop of rain but the winds whipped through up to 100 mph! It downed trees, power poles, and knocked out power to a big portion of Cincinnati including my dad's place. My mother-in-law got her power back early this morning. Dad's still in dark. According to Dad, the electric company's calling back their technicians they sent to Texas to help. His neighbors lost some trees, some shingles off their roofs, and there are downed power poles and lines on his road. He's lost all the food in his refrigerator. But my dad and his neighbors are safe and well and their houses are intact. As much as my family and I are shocked that Cincinnati had a hurricane, we know it's nothing compared to Ike. Our hearts and prayers go out to those in Texas and the Gulf Coast who have been affected. You'll also want to see what Amarinda Jones, Anika Hamilton, Anny Cook, Barbara Huffert, Brynn Paulin, Bronwyn Green, Dakota Rebel, Kelly Kirch, Molly Daniels, Sandra Cox, Regina Carlysle, and Cindy Spencer Pape are up to, so make sure to visit them also. :)

There were some downed limbs across the street, and our power blipped twice. Yesterday, three houses to the right had no power; downed electrical lines behind the house! Fortunately, ours was on another circut.

How does that even happen? I mean, Tennessee is ahead of OH and IN and we barely got cloud cover. I'm kinda bummed. Very little rain here to show for Ike. Mostly misting for a couple of hours. The weather finally cooled though. No longer 90s now we are expecting a dry high of 78. Finally the humidity is gone.

Wow can't believe Ike is still going! They normally peter out pretty quickly once hitting the land!

These storms almost seem to become worse each year. I know the storms were really bad here in NZ while we were away but not hurricane level.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the storms. I hope your family get power again soon. We rely on it so much these days!

I'm so glad your Dad and MIL are safe!!!

I love thunder storms, but the idea of hurricanes scare the hell out of me!

That's the first time I've ever heard that Ohio or Indiana had a hurricane. They're so far inland that I thought it was impossible - till now. I thought it might get the remnants but not that much of it.
