Yesterday the blood mobile was setting in front of Borders again when I arrived. It's been awhile since I've donated and I felt bad about it so even though I'm super busy and stressing out, I donated. It's something easy and very important so I'm happy to help. The blood mobile people also asked my daughter and her best friend to donate. Both girls are 18 now so old enough. My daughter, however, is extremely scared to see her blood and the needle ( I guess she won't become a doctor or nurse after all). She wants to help someone, save a life as they say, but it terrifies her. She keeps saying she'll donate blood "next time". Her friend who has also never donated talked her into trying, several hours after I was finished donating. I could see the blood mobile entry from where I sat in Border's Cafe and I watched them go in. About two seconds later, they popped back out and rejoined me. It turns out neither had ID with them. I can't imagine going anywhere without ID, except maybe for a walk in my neighborhood. So DD#2 told me late last night that donating hair (she's growing out her hair for the second time to donate to "Locks of Love") is her thing and donating blood is mine. Does this mean she's decided not to try to donate blood in future? Who knows. I've given up trying to figure her out.

Kudos to both you and your daughter. That's great. Giving blood is not easy for a lot of us. I have tried on more than one occasion and never met with success.....
I used to donate blood regularly back in oz, but when I moved to the UK they wouldn't let me because I was from a different country!
My son is donating for the first time this year. He's only 16, so I had to sign the permission slip. I'm proud of him for wanting to do this!
Kudos to your daughter for finding her way to give back!
My daughter tried to donate last week and was told she was too THIN. Is that usual? I don't know. Giving blood is a great thing but there are always alternatives in "giving back". My daughter used to babysit at a homeless shelter. The little ones needed looking after while parents looked for work or attended adult education classes. It's a little thing that helped a lot.
There are so many ways to help others. I think it's wonderful that you and your dughter have both found what works for each of you :)
