Author interview:

1) Why do you write (erotic) romance?

When I started writing I never intended to write the spicier side of romance. That changedI wrote my first love scene. The characters were not the vanilla, door-closed type so I rolled with it and discovered I had a hotter passion for the erotic romance genre than I first suspected.

2) What romance subgenres do you write in? Why?

So happy you asked this question. Beyond contemporary romance, I also write paranormal romance with a first in a new series planned for release mid 2015. It’s going to rock and I can’t wait for readers to discover the new worlds I’ve created. No matter the sub-genre though, every book I write will always have my special brand of spice. ;)

3) Are you aware of any themes that run through your stories? If so, what are they?

At first, I didn’t realize I had worked theme into my writing until my editor pointed it out. After that, I took a closer look and found family and unity strong themes in everything I create. While on different levels and not always evident at first, by the end, these two themes show up in both my contemporary romance and paranormal romance books.

4) What would you like readers to take away from your stories?

When a reader sits down to read one of my books, I want them to be able to step into my stories and feel they’ve taken a trip with my characters. Followed them through finding themselves, finding each other, and ultimately finding happiness which will hopefully allow the readers a great reading experience .

5) What inspires your stories?

A wild imagination and the ever present question, “What if…”. And hunky heroes that waltz across my mental white board at odd hours of the day and night with sexy lines, demanding I tell their story. ;)

6) Will you be attending any book or writing conferences this year? If yes, which

ones? Where and when?

No, no conferences or book signings for me this year, but I have some cool virtual Facebook parties planned for the release of the 3^rd Sexy Siesta, Sunrise for Three, coming late summer. There will be many prizes to pass out at that time!

7) Do you have any book signings or author appearances coming soon? If yes, where and when?

Along with the Facebook release party, I’m also planning a virtual book signing. However, all the juicy details for that event will be announced closer to the release of the continuation of my Sexy Siesta series. ;)

8) What is your writing schedule?

Oh, if I could only stick to a schedule. Right now, I’m basically working around the clock between promoting and writing.

I wake, home school four kiddos, then write my daily ten pages. After that is done, I work through the rest of the day talking with readers, writing blog posts, and the such. There’s no real set schedule except keep butt-in-chair until page count is done.

9) Do you have any other passions besides writing? If yes, what are they? Why?

By day, I write romance and by night, I’m a cover artist. It wasn’t planned. Just kind of happened in a way that turned out to be a cool opportunity to meet others in my line of work and pursue my talent with Photoshop. I also design all my covers and anything that’s needed in the promo area.

10) What is your best memory?

Good question! It was a rainy summer day. Not to hot nor cool. The arena where my mother trained horses was finally empty of other people and I was sitting on the fence daydreaming like any other three year old would about what it would be like to ride one of the magical animals my mother loved so much.

That day my dream came true. With no import to the rain, my mother plucked me off the railing and plopped me straight into the saddle for the first time. Then she proceeded to slip on my first pair of cowgirl boots. I’ll never forget the cream colored flourish against the hard brown leather. I was a real cowgirl with my own set of boots and my own horse nicknamed Rocky Road for the black speckle of spot on the hindquarters of the Appaloosa.

It was the best day. Ever!

11) What is your favorite comfort food?

Chicken ‘N Dumplins. Do my southern roots show?

12) What relaxes you?

Reading. I love to kick back after work and grab the latest release from a favorite author. Normally that would be anything from Lora Leigh, Lori Foster, or Nora Roberts, among so so many others.

13) What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Rocky road ice cream, hands down. Then if that isn’t available, my back up is homemade peach cobbler made in a crock pot topped with vanilla ice cream. YUM!

14) What decade has been your favorite? Why?

The 90’s! Roller rinks were the in thing and boy, did I know how to work it on a set of skates!

15) What is your favorite way(s) to promote?

Playing hooky on Facebook, talking shop with other authors and shopping for my next read on Amazon. I am a complete sucker for a cool cover and awesome blurb!

16) Where is your favorite place to write? Why?

Sitting directly under the mini-split in my bedroom while typing away on my mini laptop. It’s way too hot anywhere else in this humid beach town!

17) What is your favorite fairy tale? Why?

Alice in Wonderland was a favorite as a child. I even have one of the very first print editions which is over one hundred years old. As a child I felt Alice wasn’t afraid to follow her heart on whatever adventure she fancied and I loved how strong her imagination was. In fact, looking back, this fairy tale is what inspired me to write stories as a child and then later on as an adult.

18) What was your favorite vacation?

Taking a trip to the beach when the family and I need a break from the daily workload. Or even the mountains when we get tired of the sand and surf. Living at the beach kind of makes you want to a different view every once in a while.

19) If you have/had another career, what was it?

I am one of the lucky writers who had a dream and got to pursue it immediately. Although I have a second job as a cover artist/swag designer, I also get numerous hours of writing time each day.

20) If you didn’t write, what would you do instead?

I’d be a full time horse rancher. Though I moved away from the farm as a child, I still have the down home roots strong in my blood. If I ever move back Stateside I just might cut out a piece of land somewhere near Montana for a ranch of my own.

21) If you could have one wish, what would it be?

To have more time to write all the book ideas that I have floating around in my head. As is, I would need two life times to accomplish this! Oh, and meet Nora Roberts. There’s no denying I’m a total fan girl!

22) If you could describe yourself in only one word, what would it be? Why?

Determined. When I set my mind to something, I learn it through and through. If I wasn’t like that I would have never stuck with learning how to write a damn good story.

23) Who was your favorite American Idol contestant this year? Why? (only if you watch the show)

Between all the writing and promo work I don’t get a lot of time to watch TV. When I do, I like to vegge out with Castle and 24.

24) Are you a cat or dog person? Do you have any pets and if so, please tell us about them.

I’ve always been a dog person. Cats are okay, but not my favorite. Having said that, I actually own only one animal and he’s a cat. Mr. Jingles—originally named Tiffany before the vet corrected us on the gender—arrived on our doorstep as a tiny kitten one night twelve years ago and hasn’t left since. He’s a European alley cat that’s suffers from an identity crisis on a daily bases. He begs for cheese, wags his tail like a dog for chicken bits and purrs like a kitty when he wants his ears scratched. He’s the baby of the family and my girls make it a point to spoil him every chance they get.

25) What is the one thing you most want to do that you haven’t yet?

Visit Ireland. I want to see as many castles as I could possible fit into one vacation to the Emerald Isle.
