Interview withVictoria:
When did you first know you were a writer? Please tell us about it.
When did you first know you were a writer? Please tell us about it.
I’ve always written, even as
a young child. One of my favourite things to do was to make up stories. I’ve
always loved words, always written from poems to short stories and longer
pieces. As long as I’ve been able to write I’ve known I’m a writer.
How
do you conduct research for your books?
Haphazardly. The internet is
my friend, but I will also visit the library where necessary. Experiences I
have get stored up as research for possible future stories, everything that
happens to me, everything I see is in some way research.
Have
you ever traveled to conduct research for your books? If so, please tell us
about it.
Everywhere I travel can be
inspiration and research. I’ve written several stories based in Scarborough, my
favourite place in all the world. And Her Secret Past http://victoriablisse.co.uk/books/her-secret-past
, my latest novel, is set in Yorkshire. I love Yorkshire and it’s countryside.
What
do your friends, family, and day job employers think about your books? Do they
support you? Or do you hide any pseudonyms from them?
My friends and family are
ultra supportive. My husband is my cheering squad and he never lets me down. My
mum promotes my books at her place of work and my vicar (yes vicar) has read at
least one of my books. How cool is that? I’m really, really blessed to have
such support.
What
is the fastest you’ve ever written a book? What is the average length of time
it takes you to write a book?
I’m mad. I do the NaNoWriMo
challenge every year, and have got several 50k novels out of that. It tends to
take another month or two to finish it off after the initial month of writing.
Novels definitely take a good 3-6 months to write, short stories take anything from
a day to a week and well, stories in between take in between!
When
do you know a story is working for you?
When I’m writing and I don’t
realize I’m actually writing. I’m there, in the story. I’m not always checking
my word count or flicking to facebook or twitter. If I’m reading it’s the same
thing, I’m totally pulled into the story, the rest of the world disappears into
the background.
Please
tell us what inspired the book you’re spotlighting today. Is there a story
behind the story?
Her Secret Past was born when
I saw a call for submissions from Totally Bound that totally intrigued me. I
came up with a few ideas all based around a secret and this is the one the
editor liked the most.
Set in a made up village in
the very real UK county of Yorkshire, Her Secret Past explores love, grief,
disappointment, guilt and hoarding with the help of a Hollywood Star and an odd
job man who is a little broken but really rather hot too.
It was inspired by my love of
Yorkshire, it’s a beautiful place and the people are some of the nicest, most
generous I’ve ever met. And it’s an exploration of what could happen if I
didn’t keep my inclination to hoard under control!
For
fun:
What
is your favorite go to meal?
An easy, family pleaser is
Corned beef hash, Scouse style. My hubby introduced me to it. Basically it’s
mashed potato with tinned corned beef mashed into it. I serve mine with beans.
Total winter comfort food pick me up.
Who
is your favorite movie boyfriend?
Ooooh, good question.
Probably Flash Gordon, I love that film, watched it so many times since being a
kid and there’s something about Flash, he just makes me happy!
If
you were reincarnated as an animal, which one would it be? (real or
mythological) Why?
Funnily enough, I was talking
to my hubby about this just recently. I fancy being a cat. Eat what I want when
I want, sleep where I like when I like, cuddles on demand, the ability to
toddle off and see the world as and when I want to and a human at my beck and
call!
What
is your favorite place on earth? Why?
Scarborough, Yorkshire. A
beautiful seaside town that I’ve visited at least once a year since being a
kid. I went with my Mum and Dad when I was little, I now go with my hubby and
daughter and I love it just as much.
Who
is your favorite person?
My husband, Kev Blisse,he is
amazing. He does the best graphics, he sorts my website, he’s kind, funny,
gorgeous and wonderfully loving and patient. I’m so glad he’s in my life.
If
you could hang out with anyone alive, dead, or fictional for a day, who would
it be? Why?
I know it’s cliché but I
gotta say Jesus. I love that man and it would be so cool to hang out with him.
If
you could live in another time period, what would it be? Why?
Hmm, not sure really. I’m
happy when and where I am!
What
is your favorite way to relax?
*waggles brows* Spending time
with my husband, naked happy time.
Blurb:
A past she wants to forget, a
secret that will change everything and a hunky guy who should have known
better.
It’s no secret that Katrina Quinn has been caught
having an affair with her hunky co-star. Hounded by the press she has escaped
to Yorkshire, England and the remote seclusion of Copse Cottage. It’s a house
packed full of junk and memories—far too much for one woman to handle.
For odd job man Ryan Taylor, being hired to clear
clutter while ogling one of Hollywood’s hottest stars seems like easy money. A
good way to escape his jealous, drunken girlfriend, Eve, who seems intent on
making his life a misery. But Copse Cottage is haunted with his happy past,
stirring anew his longing for the girl he used to call the best in the world.
A stolen beat-up suitcase is going to change everything—secrets
will be revealed, hearts will be broken all over again and the biggest mystery
of all will finally be answered.
