Purple Prose

Gawd! I've been accused of writing purple prose. Coupled with the fact I've not taken my Lexapro for a few weeks, this got me pretty depressed. Guess I'm a drama queen, too. At least when I'm not high on a Lexapro cocktail. Was that purple prose? Oi! Guess I'll have to write simple. KISS. I looked up "purple prose" and found several definitions: cliched writing writing that's hard to read prose that makes you wince stilted prose overcooked prose writing that tries too hard being too descriptive (this one's funny in regards to me as my critique partners usually tell me I need a lot more description) using big words I feel like pulling a Rimbaud. Arthur Rimbaud was a nineteenth Century poet who gave up his creative writing career before he turned 21. Okay, I'm not a genius like Rimbaud, and I'm a LOT older than 21. I'm also not having a gay affair (or any affair). But do I have the heart to keep writing? What else would I want to do instead? Maybe I'll feel better after the Lexapro sets in. Or maybe I'll feel better if I gorge myself on chocolate. The second seems to work for my daughter. Okay, I know I'm being a drama queen. It's a well known equation: The less Lexapro I input, the more drama I output (and vice versa). I somehow manage to keep the drama down at the day job, but that's about all I can manage sans the drugs. This is the first time in a long time I've fallen back on my intake. I can't let it happen again. I feel like a different version of myself without it. You'll also want to see what Amarinda Jones, Anika Hamilton, Anny Cook, Barbara Huffert, Brynn Paulin, Bronwyn Green, Dakota Rebel, Kelly Kirch, Molly Daniels, Sandra Cox, Regina Carlysle, and Cindy Spencer Pape are up to, so make sure to visit them also. :)

Firstly - drama queens are excellent...secondly - everyone writes the odd bit of purple prose...we're humans - we do stuff like that

In the last couple of months, I've wondered just what the hell was purple prose. Thanks for the info!

Thanks guys. I'll have to give a description later of my journey into purple prose. I have to run and take DD2 to softball at the moment, however. I could certainly write some purple prose about that...
