“This
next part is top secret but I have a good reason to tell you. Believe me, I’m
doing it for Julie, not because I’m on your side.”
Tim
steeled his heart and put up a stoic front. He gazed into her steely blue eyes
unflinchingly. “You never liked me much, did you?”
“No,
especially not after the way you left Julie high and dry.”
He
started to furrow his brow and caught himself, keeping his expression as aloof
as possible. “So why are you helping me?”
Connie
let out a pent-up sigh and turned away for several moments. Finally she faced
off to him, fisting her hands on her hips. “Because she still has feelings for
you. Because she still thinks you may be the one. Because I went through the
same exact thing with Eric and Allen.”
“But?”
He could hear it hanging in the air and it irked him.
Her
knuckles turned white. “But, she also has feelings for James. She loves both of
you but she’s not sure which one of you she’s in love with.”
“Is
that all? I need to beat the crap out of James. I can’t believe my friend is
trying to steal my girl.”
Connie’s
eyes flashed a warning. “No. That’s the last thing you should do. You have to
woo her, show her what a great guy you are, make her fantasies come true, make
her fall in love with you again.”
One
word seemed to have emphasis and he honed in on it, wondering if there was more
Connie was having trouble telling him. “What fantasies? Does she want me to
carry her off to my bed? Me Tarzan, her Jane?”
Connie
shifted her feet nervously and she looked around everywhere but at him. “Not
exactly. That would be too easy.”
His
mind reeled. What else did women fantasize about? Should he get down on bended
knee with a huge-ass diamond ring? “What else?”
Her
eyes widened incredulously. “Do I have to spell it out?”
Unable
to stand another second of her games, he shouted, “Spit it out.”
