Olympics: Archery

Wednesday I talked about Equestrian Eventing in the Olympics and how I used to ride horses in my younger days. I also used to shoot archery. In fact, I was on a Jr. Olympic archery league in Cincinnati when I was a kid. Moreover, archer Darrel Pace was the star of our program. Darrel was several years older than me so he wouldn't have known who I was. But I watched him week in, week out, in amazement of his skill, wishing I was half as talented as he. I also thought he was pretty darned cute. I only have a dim memory of what he looked like, but the actor Jerry O'Connell (the first Quinn Mallory in "Sliders") reminds me of Darrell. I could be dead wrong as after all, that was many moons ago. I really loved to shoot. Not only archery but trap and skeet, rifles and pistols, with my dad. My favorite types of shooting, however, was with bow and arrow and trap. I used to go with Dad to his shooting range and do all types of shooting. They had an outdoor archery range, but I really preferred to shoot archery at the indoor range. I was never a star. In fact, I don't even recall my average. But it was fun. I don't know if it was because I was an archer or because I was a romantic (probably both) but I always loved Robin Hood and his tales. Maybe it's because I love dashing men. One thing you can be sure of, I'll be glued to the archery event when they show it. I hope they show it. I hope I've not missed it. (I wrote this several days in advance of posting it, so maybe I've seen it in between.) What's your favorite summer Olympic events? What are your favorite winter Olympic events? In the winter, I love the ice skating. I was always a roller skater but I'd love to be a better ice skater. I have trouble balancing on one blade and so have trouble roller blading, too. I'm still determined to get better at ice skating and roller blading. So, here are my 7 random facts about myself.

1) I marched in the 1979 New Orleans Mardis Gras parade as part of the Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps.

2) I used to shoot trap and Jr. Olympic archery.

3) I once fell off a horse in the middle of a riding competition. I felt myself falling and knew I couldn't stay on, so rather than fall on my butt, I jumped off. The judges, of course, asked me why I jumped off. Oy! And the cutest boy in the world was watching. (I guess he noticed me as we ended up necking later.)

4) I have an MBA from Nova Southeastern University.

5) I've only been out of the US three times to visit: Jamaica (for work), Haiti (for work), and Canada (for lunch and one afternoon).

6) I love to play scrabulous and waste too much time playing it.

7) I'm a Trekkie. I also love Star Wars.
