Down with Asthma

I'm down with asthma this week. I've been having trouble breathing for the past couple weeks. The past few days I started coughing. Yesterday it became really bad so I went to the doctor. I thought I had bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection. Asthma didn't occur to me. But that's what the doctor diagnosed and treated me for. I took a breathing treatment and was put on two medications. Then I went back to work - for an hour. I still felt poorly so I went home and slept the rest of the day. I went to work today, however, as I felt somewhat better this morning. As the day went on, I began to cough a lot again, and I had trouble breathing. Not as bad as yesterday but still not good. I arranged with my boss to stay home tomorrow so I can take a long weekend to rest. I stopped and bought enough groceries to last so I won't have to leave the house. The daughter who gets cabin fever is staying with her friends. The other kids are homebodies. Hopefully, I'll be better soon. You'll also want to see what Amarinda Jones, Anika Hamilton, Anny Cook, Barbara Huffert, Brynn Paulin, Bronwyn Green, Dakota Rebel, Kelly Kirch, Molly Daniels, Sandra Cox, Regina Carlysle, and Cindy Spencer Pape are up to, so make sure to visit them also. :)

Ashley,
I hate to say it, but I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed with asthma 12 years ago. I remember the moment exactly...I cried. Since then, I have learned how to take care of my lungs...when it isn't a good day to go outside to play or drive with the windows open. I'm assuming he gave you a long and short acting inhaler. Remember which is which in case of emergency. Did he also give you Singular? It works great too in combination with the inhalers. I don't know how much he told you, but if it gets too bad he can give you steroids like Prednisone to help get over it. A prelude to that would be to breath on a nebulizer. Become educated about your disease. After all these years, I had my first acute attack last week and I thought I was going to suffocate and die. OH MY GOODNESS I WAS SO SCARED WHICH ONLY MADE IT WORSE! I only tell you that because I want you to really understand your disease and learn all about your "lungs". If there is anything I can do for you, just let me know. Unfortunately, I have tried many meds before I hit the right one for me. I love my lungs :o)

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks. We have a breathing machine at home for my sons who also have it. I have an inhaler.

I suppose I should get off the computer and truly rest.

I appreciate your hugs and support.

(((HUGS))) I went through that in March, sweetie...I know how rough it can be. Take care of yourself, and be thankful for an understanding boss!

In addition to the inhaler, I found that Hall's cough drops helped somewhat...helped keep the mucous down.
