Bad Girls Blogfest - Kes from Carnal Lust

Bad Girl Blogfest

Today's blogfest hosted by Andrew Rosenberg at Dawns Rise blog is all about bad girls, bad girl heroines including thieves, connivers, cheaters, enforcers, vigilantes and others running from the law.

Bad girls are very interesting. My daughters love Kate (Angelina Jolie) in "Hackers", a sexy bad girl hacker. And so do I. Bad girls are intriguing.

My entry features Kes, a vampiress vigilante intent on eliminating Nikolai.

"Carnal Lust" will be released: May 17, 2010 at http://www.total-e-bound.com/

Blurb: Carnal Lust
Kes is obsessed with killing Nikolai – to prevent him from destroying Earth 900 years into the future.

Kes is obsessed with eliminating Nikolai before he's reborn as the evil vampire who destroys Earth and propels her family into the past.

Once she finds the Nikolai of her present is a good and kind man she's not sure she can hold the very sexy human accountable for something he hasn't yet done.

Excerpt
Hours later Kes couldn’t rip her gaze from the devil who had blown up Earth. She didn’t take her gaze from Nikolai, the destroyer. She quaked with hatred. How she hated this boil on the face of humanity!

She knew better than to be deceived by his sunny hair, the twinkle in his eyes or his handsome figure. Nor did the sparkle in his smile fool her.

She cursed the currents of time for bringing her family back to the Earth of the devil’s youth. When Nikolai had blown up Earth in the twenty-third century it had hurled her parents’ space ship more than a thousand years into Earth’s past. But ranting and screaming at fate wasn’t helping.

Instead of fairy tales and happily ever afters like normal children, she’d grown up with bedtime stories of how the evil vampire, Nikolai, had blasted apart their world and left only a rag tag group of vampires as Earth’s legacy to the universe. It wasn’t exactly how the humans of her mother’s generation had envisioned their future.

Despite herself, she nursed a morbid fascination for the destroyer. She couldn’t stop her thoughts thus night after night she followed him, ever watchful and waiting, but for what she knew not.

Although Nikolai wasn’t yet a vampire, he roamed through the moonlit nights. He often rode bent low over his horse, becoming one with it under the stars over the windswept moors. Even when the night was stormy and tumultuous such as this, he frequented the seedy pubs outlying his lands. His army often attacked his enemies under cover of the night’s shadows.

She spat out the vile taste he left in her mouth. He was a born bloodsucker. Just not in the same way as she.

Hmm! I wonder if her being blown back in time to stop him is part of what turns him into the destroyer later!

I have a bad guy named Nikolai as well. Great writing :)

I like the central idea. It will probably be fun to see how it develops.

Possibly though, there might be something to be gained by playing with the way you give us this info a little more. Currently, it reads just a touch too much like one of those 'tell us all about the main character' expositions.

Hmm...I kinda wanted her to actually do something bad. She just seems kind of bitter. Makes me wonder that if he's okay now, did something she do turn him into the monster?
Interesting start, I agree with Stu, I want to see what comes of all this setup.
Thanks for participating!

An interesting character. Both of them. This would be like someone going back in Hitler's past and catching him in his youth, finding you like his charm and ideology.

The romantic in me wants her to change him; the realist says "off with his head."

Poor girl. She's got her work cut out for her.

Intriguing concept. How do you destroy someone who isn't evil...yet? How does being sent back to the past impact her existence in the future? Her voice is strong, but I do agree with Stu, I'd like the details spread out, not delivered all at once.

Good luck!
