Blog Hop: "My Writing Process...."

"My Writing Process...."

I found this blog hop on Francine Howarth's blog. Since she nominated anyone who would like to play, I'm taking her up on the invitation.

1. What am I working on?

"Gaycation" for Totally Bound's upcoming Totally Five Star Hotel line. Wish me luck. The heroine is a male-male erotic romance author and she attends a gay conference to get more ideas for her novels. In the process she gets WAY more than she bargained for.

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

That's tough to say. I've seen a few comments that say I add more story to my erotic romances than is usual in this genre. I enjoy a full bodied story, not merely a string of sexual encounters. I worry sometimes that I don't add enough sex - for the romantica genre.

3. Why do I write what I write?

Beyond the fact that romantica--especially male-male romance--is very popular right now, I have gay, lesbian, and transgender friends who deserve a happily ever after just as much as anybody. In fact, two of the staunchest, most romantic couples I know are gay and transgender female/lesbian. It's a shame how they have to stand up for themselves so often, for their rights, their beliefs, and just for existing.

4. How does your writing process work?

I work full-time plus have a large family that takes up a lot of my time. Thus I have to squeeze my writing time into evenings and weekends, even if I think about my stories and work out plot details in my head a lot during the day.

I usually come up with a basic story premise with a conflict, and the characters are born after. Sometimes, as in Gaycation, the character(s) come first and their natural conflicts follow. I'm pretty much of a pantser after that.

Hi Ashley, so glad to see someone take up the baton and run with it! I started my writing career in the erotic genre! ;) A good back story with oodles of sex and romance is by far better than sex-on-the run through the pages. After all, the hot bits in a paperback are noticeable by well-thumbed gaps.
