Saturday Snippets: First Loves

The theme of today's Saturday Snippets is first loves.

My snippet today is from Whirlwind Relationship. Colleen gets whisked back 30 years in time to 1978 and gets a second chance with her first love, Gary. With future knowledge on her side, she gets to decide whether or not to do things differently this time around.

Blurb:

When Colleen gets sucked into a hurricane and awakes in 1978 she gets a second chance to be with the only man she’s ever loved.

Colleen’s life didn’t turn out like she planned. At fifty plus she’s divorced, childless and her career’s nowhere. If that isn’t bad enough, a hurricane destroys her home and sucks her into it.

When she awakes she’s either dead or crazy. It can’t be 1978 and she can’t be young again but all indications point to that.

She really can’t have a second chance with the only man she’s ever loved...or can she?

Excerpt:

Colleen stole herself not to flinch. She tried to remember the good times, the time before her friend stole the only man she’d ever loved. But she couldn’t forget the treachery. Agony tormented her as she remembered Gary and Rhonda together.

A knock on the door jarred her back to the present and the fog lifted from her brain. She had to be dreaming.

Rhonda frowned and glanced at her watch. “Are you expecting anyone this early?”

Colleen shrugged. Like she knew anything? “I don’t think so.”

Rhonda pivoted on her heel and returned momentarily. In a hushed whisper she said, “It’s Gary. He wants to see you. Should I tell him you’ll be out after you dress?”

Obviously Gary didn’t belong to Rhonda yet. Her heart raced and she finger combed her hair. Then she remembered she wasn’t only suffering from bed head. She was ancient. She’d die of embarrassment. Cougars were one thing, but thirty years older? “No! He can’t see me this way.”

Rhonda wrinkled her nose and rolled her eyes. “You make it sound like you’re a beast.”

Maybe she was…

She glanced in the mirror and froze. She couldn’t breathe. Her eyes widened. That wasn’t herself looking back at her. At least it wasn’t the person she’d known for more than thirty years.

She stared at her glowing skin, her full lips, her slender neck. Her upper arms were firm and sculpted. Her boobs stood erect and perky. She was twenty-something like Rhonda. And gorgeous.

Her first attempt at speech got stuck in her throat. Her second try was more successful. “It’s okay. Let him in.”

Rhonda’s jaw dropped. “Are you sure? You’re not decent. Your nipples show through that gown.”

For thirty years she’d dreamed about Gary’s kisses, longed for his caresses and berated herself for being stupid enough to let Rhonda steal him. Now that he was here, she wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. She was happy her nipples showed. She was anxious to let Gary see a whole lot more than just her dusky aureoles.

“Dead sure.” This time, if it was a second chance, she was going to fight for her man.

Rhonda flipped her hair behind her shoulder and drawled, “It’s your life.” Then she bounced out the door.

“Damn straight it’s my life!” Then she looked heavenward and said, “Thank you, God. If this is real, please don’t let me screw this up again.” If it was a dream, she wanted to sleep forever.

Carnal Lust: Erotic Vampire Romance - New Release!

My erotic vampire romance "Carnal Lust" releases Monday, May 17, 2010 at Total-E-Bound.

It's been awhile since I've had a vampire romance release and this is the first at TEB. It's also a time-travel historical romance, the first in awhile for me and the first also at TEB.

Please check it out and let me know if you enjoy the excerpt.

Blurb:
Kes is obsessed with killing Nikolai – to prevent him from destroying Earth 900 years into the future.
Kes is obsessed with eliminating Nikolai before he's reborn as the evil vampire who destroys Earth and propels her family into the past.

Once she finds the Nikolai of her present is a good and kind man she's not sure she can hold the very sexy human accountable for something he hasn't yet done.

Excerpt:
Kes languished in the arms of her lover, a man she knew not by name but by his deep, sexy voice and his intoxicating kisses. She bade the sun not to set so she could steal more time in his arms, for when the moon chased the sun out of the sky, her lover would evaporate and she would be thrust back into the real world. And the real world was hell.

But this was heaven, if a vampire could be in heaven. She writhed and twisted in his arms, pressing her naked flesh to his. He was lithe and strong for a human, and he never failed to pleasure her.

“Are you in the mood to play, milady?” her lover murmured against her flesh.

She tilted her lips into a smile and nodded. “Wild and rough.”

He beamed at her with a sparkle in his eyes. “Whatever milady wishes.”

When he shackled her to the bed posts, her stomach pressed to the mattress, her legs spread wide, she didn’t demur. She squirmed with anticipation, her pussy clenching.

She turned her head and watched as he spread oil over his beautiful cock and then climbed aboard the bed. She lay there helpless, swaying with the motion as he approached stealthily. Her ass clenched, too, yearning for his touch. When he delivered a stinging slap to her bare buttocks, she screamed in a mixture of pain and pleasure. Never before had anyone spanked her, and she tingled.

Titillated, she rubbed her breasts against the bed, cajoling him to unite with her. But he sat beside her and ran the tips of his fingers across her back, to the edges of her breasts then pulled back. He walked them to the small of her back and withdrew again.

“Do you not wish to make love to me? To fuck me?”

“Are you that anxious to feel my cock move inside you? To be one with me?” He drew himself up to his knees and drew the tip of his cock along her side.

He bent by her ear and dipped his tongue inside. Then he whispered huskily, “Does that feel good? How bad do you want it?”

Her rear throbbed with an exquisite ache but not enough. She yearned for much more. “I crave your cock. I want you to fill me, to be inside me. Now.”

My fascination for the 1940's and 1950's

I love genealogy, and I love stories, real and fiction, about the 1940's and 1950's. I think I find this time frame so fascinating is because this is when my parents were young. I'm also partial to the 20th century versus prior historical periods. Again, I think this is because I knew people who lived during those times and I like to imagine what their lives were like. When I say "people", I mean people important in my life such as my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. My parents were teenagers in the 1940's and despite WWII and the fact my mom's family had a really rough time during the Great Depression, it sounded like she had a terrific teenage life. She had a lot of fun dating and riding street cars. She spouted off telephone exchanges as if she still used them daily. My mom was beautiful in pictures during those years and she had gorgeous, elegant dresses for her high school dances and weddings. The most recent movie I've watched touching on that time period is "Julie & Julia". Julia Child began cooking classes and working on her cookbook in the 1940's. Her sister was married in 1950 or close to it. When the movie showed her sister's wedding, the fashion including the dresses, hats, and hairstyles looked just like my mom's and my aunts'. I whispered to the daughter who was sitting next to me in the movie that this was the same year as my parents' wedding and the same type of dress they wore. She told her sister and they both thought it was pretty cool. Our generation and future generations of writers are lucky in this way. We have lots of movies to watch from the last hundred years or so if we want to see how people lived then. At least the gadgets and fashion and some of the scenery. I'm working on a time-travel romance featuring 1978. That's still fresh in my memory, more than the 80's which is a blur of diapers and Big Bird to me. I loved being a teenager in the 1970's. It was a really fun time. It doesn't feel historical to me - it feels like a year or two ago. I've never been a historical writer with the exception of a couple of time-travels featuring contemporary heroines who go back in time. I like to see the comparisons between today and yesteryear. But if I was to write a historical, it would most likely be from 1900 and forward where I can imagine members of my family being. My grandparents were all born in the 1890's except for my dad's mom who was born in the year 1900. They were young and falling in love in the 1920's. My grandfathers fought in WWII. My great-uncle died in WWII from Mustard gas. Likewise, my parents were kids during the Great Depression and teenagers during WWII. My mom's older brother fought in WWII then came home to marry his next door neighbor who'd been his penpal throughout the war. I would much prefer to watch a WWII romance than a cowboy flick set in the 19th century or before. Maybe that's why I love the Indiana Jones movies so much. But I love Singing in the Rain, too. Of course, they're great movies, but they're better yet for me because I can imagine my grandparents being young and having fun and falling in love then. That's a 10-4 Rubber Duck

Guess what I'm doing tonight? If you guessed that I'm having fun driving my kids crazy, you'd be partially right. Of course, I enjoy doing that a lot. But tonight in particular. :) I'm also researching 1978 for a time-travel romance I'm writing. Why 1978? I graduated from high school that year. Between going to the disco several nights a week most every week and switching gears a couple times a month and going to the square dance and doing the CB radio thing, I had loads of fun. My kids, and probably most of the people alive today, seem to think the 1970's were weird. But it was FUN! Partially I think so because I was a teenager. But I think that merely allowed me to enjoy it as I wasn't fettered by diapers or a wedding ring yet. The 80's and 90's and even today, seem pretty boring in comparison to the 70's. I wasn't a Burt Reynolds groupie (that was my hubby) but I thought he was hilarious as the Bandit in "Smokey and the Bandit". I don't recall ever seeing "Convoy" with Kris Kristoffersen and Ali McGraw, but I figured now was a good time to remind me of things 70's. I was hoping to download it on the computer and watch it, but we can't find a version that looks safe. But there's You Tube! So I've been playing Convoy videos on You Tube to immerse myself in the times. I'll have to visit Blockbuster this weekend to see if I can rent it. My dad's CB handle was "Speed Boat". I don't remember mine or if I even had one. Back then every female was "Foxy Lady" or "Foxy something". It's cracking me up: "Love Machine", "Rubber Duck", "Bears in the Air"... Yes, a lot of people really talked that way - in Ohio, USA where I lived, anyway. Usually it was in snippets. "Ten-four" and "Put the pedal to the medal" was pretty common. The kids got smart - they pulled out their headphones so they can tune out my wacky songs and videos. Shoot! They're destroying my fun. Dang kids! But not all of it. I'm pretty easily amused and laughing at this trip down memory lane. I'm also having fun writing this time travel. I hope I can do it justice. I'm trying.
