Eye of the Beholder

Isn't it amazing how two or three people see exactly the same thing and get something totally different out of it?

Last week I joined Monday Minute Fiction. The leader posted a picture and our mission was to write a short story about it.

Last week she wrote about a shiek and I wrote about an erotic movie. This week she wrote about a ravenous vampire and I wrote a cougar (older woman-younger man)/reunion story.

This really makes me worry about the using eye-witness testimony in court. Just because someone saw something, did they see what was really happening? For God's sake Brynn saw vampires! I saw a fireman calendar model wanna-be.

I just joined a new blog (Lilah Pierce - author) and she has a writing challenge. She's challenged authors to pick one of four pictures, write a short story, and submit it to her. She'll post the stories once a month. Pretty cool. Click here to participate Lilah's writing challenge. Let Brynn Paulin know if you want to join in Monday Minute Fiction here.

Unleash Your Story to help Cystic Fibrosis

Above is the center square of a cowboy quilt made by Michelle Baker and one of the prizes you can win for helping a very worthwhile cause: cystic fibrosis. Match Michelle’s reading or blog writing goal* and win a $10 B&N Gift Card. Check out her goal here. Bonus: Match my reading or blog writing goal and raise $250 and you'll score a $25 B&N Gift card. To be eligible for those prizes, email info@unleashyourstory.com. When my older daughter was little, she wasn't gaining weight. The doctors ran a gazillion tests on her and were about to diagnosis cystic fibrosis which is a very scary diagnosis. Luckily for us, nothing was wrong with my daughter. Eventually she gained weight and she's doing well. She turned 26 last Friday. Unfortunately, this is a killer disease that affects many. Researchers and families need help to combat it. And so, the writing/reading community is stepping in. I first heard about this just a couple minutes ago at the Smart Bitches blog. Author Lori Wilde is also leading the way and challenging writers to write 3,000 words daily, five days a week, for the month of September. According to Smart Bitches "There’s prizes if you match her, too: “any published or unpublished author who matches Lori’s 60,000 word production during the event will receive a $10 Borders Gift Card. Match the 60,000 words and raise $250 and you’ll get a $25 gift card.”" Heck, I've joined BIAW and BIAM writing challenges just to kick start my writing and to have fun. If I can do it for that, why not to help a worthwhile cause? According to unleashyourstory.com "In 2008, Unleash Your Story raised $11,366 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Our 2009 goal is $23,000. Dollars Raised".
